Health search engine iMedix raised $2 million
Health search engine iMedix has raised $2 million in seed funding from private investors.
The community based healthcare search engine is combining advanced search with community features that allow people to find and share health information in order to make better health-related decisions.
iMedix is planning to make its health search technology available to Health portals, publications, blogs and other sites with relevant health information.
iMedix is a privately held startup in Herzeliya, founded in January 2007 by Amir Leitersdorf and Iri Amirav. Leitersdorf, CEO of iMedix, previously co-founded Movota, which was sold to The Bertelsmann Group in 2005. Amirav, CMO at iMedix, established and led the marketing division at the video sharing website Metacafe.

AOL has acquired Web 2.0 Q&A platform provider Yedda
Global Web services company AOL has acquired the Web 2.0 search based Questions and Answer platform provider Yedda. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Israeli startup will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL.
AOL will incorporate Yedda's platform into select programming areas on AOL.com. "Incorporating Yedda's unique technology into AOL enables us to bring together our traditional search resources and an entire community of people to help users quickly find answers to questions," said Ron Grant, President and COO of AOL.
Yedda employs patent-pending technology that automatically matches questions to other related questions and topics, while selecting the best available users to answer the question. Yedda helps publishers and content websites to enhance user engagement and overall user loyalty, improve monetization, and increase search engine visibility through promoting their sites as knowledge communities.
Yedda was founded in 2006 by Avichay Nissenbaum, Yedda CEO and Yaniv Golan, the company CTO. Yedda’s R&D center, which currently employs approximately 20 people, will continue to be based in Israel. Yedda has raised $2.5 million from Israeli venture fund Genesis Partners and private investors.

Message boards and forums search engine Omgili gets seed funding from Pitango Venture
Message boards and forums search engine Omgili has completed a seed funding from Israeli-based venture fund Pitango Venture Capital. The funding will enable Omgili to pursue its plans to commercialize its technology and to accomplish first round of funding.
Omgili is a crawler based, vertical search engine that scans millions of online discussions worldwide in over 100,000 boards and forums, and is able to differentiate between discussion entities, such as, topic, post, answer and post date.
Omgili search engine enable individuals, companies and institutions to effectively tap into the collective intelligence and experience of millions of people on the World Wide Web, and derive valuable information, knowledge, conclusions and insights.
"Omgili search is rapidly growing in popularity, which confirms our belief that people can really benefit from knowing what other people are saying. Omgili's mission is to harness the infinite power of 'many to many' web communication platforms for the benefit of our customers," said Ran Geva, CEO of Omgili. "User Generated Content is a vast sea of knowledge and experience that is now at everyone's disposal."
Omgili was founded in April 2007 by the Geva and Israel tzadok. The company plan to develop marketing research tools that will allow marketers worldwide to actually listen to what their consumers are saying about their brands and products.

Blog and media search startup Wikio raised $5.3 million from Lightspeed and Gemini Israel Funds
European blogging platform and news search startup Wikio has raised $5.3 million in a financing round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners along with Gemini Israel Funds. The new round of financing will enable Wikio to expand globally, and deliver innovative and customizable web based information services.
Wikio, launched in France in June 2006, and currently operating sites in France, United States, Germany, Italy and Spain, is the first European blog and media search engine. The launch of the Wikio UK site is planned for the second quarter of 2007, followed by additional European and American sites.
“The tremendous growth and popularity of Wikio boils down to its innovative product. Personalizing and organizing information in a compelling way is becoming an increasingly important tool for consumers,” said Yoni Cheifetz, partner, Lightspeed Venture Partners. “Coupled with the company’s strong business model, we’re in a very good position to help Wikio become a leading information platform for European and global customers.”
Based on Web 2.0 technologies, Wikio allows users to easily create and build their own personalized webpage of information based on tags that they select. Wikio, like the US based popular news aggregators websites Digg and Netscape, present news headline with links to original article, that generated by european users. Wikio’s shareholders include business angels such as Loic Le Meur, VP Sixapart Europe, Martin Varsavsky CEO FON, Freddy Mini COO Netvibes, Ouriel Ohayon Editor Techcrunch France, and Jeff Clavier.
